The Ultimate Amazon Shopping List for Destination Wedding Travels

Here’s a question for all of the brides and grooms whose destination weddings are right around the corner: How confident are you that you’ve packed everything you could possibly need for your destination wedding trip, including backups for any last minute emergencies?

Before you zip your suitcase closed and head out the door for the airport, take a look through this list and make sure that you’ve really covered all your bases for your big day. Get ready for some pre-travel shopping and, at the very least, consider picking up some of the essentials listed here. These items could end up saving you a lot of time and stress as you make the trip to your wedding location.

Garment Bag

There’s nothing worse than packing up a beautiful dress or freshly tailored suit, only to arrive at your destination after a multi-hour flight and find that the garment has gotten caught on a zipper or even worse, stained! Avoid an outfit blunder and buy yourself a garment bag that can also be hung up in a closet at your hotel or resort for safekeeping until the ceremony. For a reasonable price you can give yourself peace of mind that your wedding attire will make it from point A to point B intact, ready for you to wear as you say “I do.”

Handheld Steamer

Even with the protection of a garment bag, your outfit is still likely to need some sprucing up before heading down the aisle. You can get rid of any stubborn creases and wrinkles in just minutes with a steamer, plus it’s much more gentle on garments than a typical iron. A handheld steamer is a great investment that you’ll most likely use far beyond your wedding day. Ranging anywhere from $30 to $100, many with tens of thousands of positive reviews, there’s bound to be an option available that fits your budget and needs.

Shoe Dust Bag or Carrier

Similar to the garment bag, a carrying case or bag for your shoes can be a lifesaver when travelling for your wedding. If anything happens to spill or shift around in your suitcase during flights or bumpy car rides, you don’t have to worry about any staining or scuffs. If you have multiple pairs of shoes, like something more formal for the ceremony and then a comfortable alternative for the reception, they make travel bags that can hold multiple pairs so you’re in luck!

Nude Undergarments

Be proactive and bring a few undergarments (including underwear and bras/stickies) in white and variations of a “your nude” tone. It’s hard to predict what the lighting in different locations will do to your outfit, so avoid unwanted lines and shadows by bringing a couple of options to choose from.

Teeth Whitening Strips

Get your teeth looking sharp right before the wedding with some whitening strips. Don’t worry about paying hundreds for professional whitening all you need is a pack of to-go strips and you’re all set! With the stress and busyness of planning a wedding you’ve probably drank more coffee and wine than usual, which can lead to staining that you don’t necessarily want in your wedding photos. You can go with name brand whitening strips if that’s your preference, but in my experience these ones work even better and aren’t as expensive. I personally use them and always get compliments, plus they have zero sensitivity which is a huge win for me. I've also heard great things about these ones if you're looking for another option.

Sunscreen

This one is location-dependent, but if you’re headed somewhere tropical, beachy, or sunny, add sunscreen on your pre-travel shopping list. You definitely don’t want to spend your first few days on-location basking in the sun, only to end up with a nasty sunburn right before your big day! If you want to be extra cautious, pack a waterproof option as well as a face sunscreen; some creams can be heavy and cause breakouts, so grabbing a tube that’s formulated specifically for your face is ideal.

Don’t forget that you can only bring travel-size amounts of liquid and creams on planes (usually 3.4 ounces or 100 millilitres), so make sure you grab some of these cute small containers to transport your skincare that won’t get taken from you before you board.

Pimple Patches

Speaking of breakouts, do yourself a favor and bring pimple patches! Even if you aren’t prone to acne, being in a new location means the climate and air quality will be different than what you’re used to and your skin might need some extra TLC to look its best. If you have a blemish that makes an appearance shortly before your wedding day, using a pimple patch can draw out any gunk, helps keep redness to a minimum, and also prevents you from picking your skin which always makes things worse!

Small Sewing Kit

What if you’re mere hours from your wedding ceremony and your earring gets caught on the lace of your veil, or one of your bridesmaids has a strap that needs adjusting on their dress? There are many little things like these examples that can come up unexpectedly, and there’s no need to let something small become a bigger issue! By having a travel-friendly pair of scissors, a needle, and some different colors of thread available, you can solve pretty much any minor garment crisis in the nick of time.

Universal Power Adapter

This might be one of the most helpful items on the list and definitely worth the spend if you’re travelling abroad. There’s nothing more frustrating than arriving at your hotel or resort with a plan to get ready for your wedding or a party, only to find out that you can’t plug in your curling iron or hair dryer… or even worse, your cellphone! Come prepared with a universal outlet adapter; some even have USB ports so you don’t have to bother bringing multiple charging blocks.

Document Holder

You might think you’re the most organized person in the world and there’s no chance you’d ever misplace an important document such as your ID or passport, but why risk it? You’re bound to be preoccupied with countless other things and excitement leading up to your wedding day. There are small card holders that are great for housing your travel-related documents and insurance cards, and there are full letter-sized organizers that can easily fit into your luggage to hold official marriage documents. Feeling like you need some extra security? Opt for a holder with a wristlet or crossbody strap so you can keep things close. Feeling a little boujee? Opt for these black & white holders for the bride and groom!
